Cheuk Yan Cherry Tung

Cheuk Yan Cherry Tung is a Hong Kong-born painter currently based in Chicago, USA. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2023 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020.

Tung’s art practice involves using delicate and culturally significant material such as silk and porcelain to discuss social and political issues. Her artistic style is characterized by a unique blend of tradition and innovation, reflecting her perspective and emotions as a contemporary Chinese-American artist. Living in the United States has deepened her connection to her Chinese identity and heightened her cultural awareness. Tung’s choice of Chinese gongbi painting as her primary medium is driven by her appreciation for its delicate, intricate, and pure qualities.

In terms of recognition, Tung was awarded the Emerging Art Development Grant by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2024, as well as the Luminarts Visual Arts Award and James Nelson Raymond Scholarship in 2023. Her artwork has been showcased in various venues in Hong Kong and the United States, including Garrett Museum of Art, Touch Gallery, Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, Union League Club Chicago, CSI Project Space, Art Clvb, Confluence Gallery, Art Pie Gallery, SAIC Gallery, Ruschman Gallery, and the John David Mooney Foundation in the US.
