Nathan Rennich

Nathan is an architectural designer and educator living in Chicago. Artistically, he practices architectural anthropology, employing spatial techniques to tease out truths about our social relationships, big and small. This takes the form of illustrations, performances, and large-scale installations.

During this residency with Artists in Public Schools he intends to introduce students to methods of architecture, instilling agency and critical thinking in the pursuit of personal investigation. Who is designing and building your spaces? How well do they serve you? What needs to change?

The result of these internal (psyche) and external (physical) explorations will provide small answers to one more big question, How are we doing?

Artists in Public Schools creates artist residencies in Chicago Public Schools (CPS), providing expansive art making experiences for students, educators, and professional Chicago-based artists. Working together with a collaborative, community-focused mindset, we celebrate and widely share the unique stories of CPS students and schools through art and creativity. When the arts and aesthetics are integrated into education, work, and life, we strengthen our capacity to learn. Creating something is at the core of learning.
