Tonal Simmons

Through portraiture, Tonal (tuh-nawl) Simmons creates spaces where Queer and Trans individuals of color are not only seen but celebrated. They are drawn to the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality. Born in the Midwest, Tonal’s work reflects a deep connection to nature, rich hues, and contemplative gazes, exploring the multifaceted reality of identity and environment. They are particularly drawn to intertwining elements of nature to tell a story of Black liberation through the lens of queerhood.
