Moos Elementary School

Students learned about the history of map making and the power in representing an area. During this residency students were challenged to reflect on the details that make up their community.  By map making, sketching and observing their commutes students started to think about the spaces there exist in with some critically Students were challenged to create their own mythical creature inspired by the city of Chicago. Their task was to develop a creature uniquely responsive to the urban landscape of Chicago.

Artists in Public Schools creates artist residencies in Chicago Public Schools (CPS), providing expansive art making experiences for students, educators, and professional Chicago-based artists. Working together with a collaborative, community-focused mindset, we celebrate and widely share the unique stories of CPS students and schools through art and creativity. When the arts and aesthetics are integrated into education, work, and life, we strengthen our capacity to learn. Creating something is at the core of learning.
